The title of Unit 1 is “Social Studies 101”. This unit lays the groundwork for the study of world history by reviewing the basic concepts behind social studies. Students will establish a common understanding of the verbs used in their standards for this course. This unit will then take students through a review of basic geography, history and culture. Students will also get an introduction to the economic and governmental systems they will encounter throughout the course.
At the end of the Unit students will be able to:
Use primary and secondary sources to interpret various historical perspectives.
Explain how environmental conditions and human response to those conditions influence modern societies and regions.
Explain how cultural expressions influence modern society.
